New Delhi: Southampton have completed the signing of the English and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, signing him for £25m. Initially, Saints will be paying £18m for Ramsdale with an add-on £7m. For now, the 26-year-old has signed a four-year deal with Southampton with an option to extend for another year.
Ramsdale has been eyeing a move from Arsenal ever since last summer when David Raya joined the club, and the former Sheffield United became a backup keeper to Raya. A couple of seasons ago, the shot-stopper was included in the Premier League team of the year but has failed to retain his position as the primary keeper in the side since last summer.

At the recently concluded European Championship, Ramsdale was also part of the English side but didn’t play a single game for the side that eventually lost to Spain in the finals. He now finds himself at a side which is on the edge of being relegated from the Premier League.
Ramsdale expressed his excitement at joining the club and said he was looking forward to playing under Russell Martin. He further noted that coming to the South Coast would be an easier transition and that he would “hit the ground running.” Since moving from Sheffield United in 2019, he has made 89 appearances for Arsenal and earned five caps for England.
Martin, too, was pleased with the move and mentioned that he was glad the club’s board was able to bring the keeper who had generated interest from Wolves as well. The Southampton coach further mentioned that Ramsdale is one of the most gifted goalkeepers, and the move is a welcomed one for the club. The Wolves deal for Ramsdale collapsed after Arsenal asked for £30m for the goalkeeper.
