New Delhi: Looking to invest in Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs)? You may get a good news very soon. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) generally launches four tranches of SGB Series in a single financial year. And the first tranche is usually opened in June of any fiscal. Albeit, the apex bank hasn’t yet announced the dates for the first tranche of Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2024-25, however, going the past trends, the central bank might open the subscription window soon.
The previous subscription window was opened in February 2024. It was the last and fourth tranche of SGBs in financial year 2023-24 (FY24). In FY24, the RBI had launched four tranches of SGBs series. The subscription windows were opened during the following periods:
First series: June 19-23, 2023
Second series: September 11-15, 2023
Third series: December 18-22, 2023
Fourth series: February 12-16, 2024

Any resident of India is eligible to invest in the SGBs.
How to subscribe to the SGBs?

Benefits of investing in SGBs
If you invest in SGBs through digital modes, you will get discount of Rs 50 per gram of gold. Apart from that, one can also make capital gains on investing in SGBs. Additionaly, you will also earn interest of 2.50 per cent every year which will be paid into your bank accounts on semi-annual basis. You will not have to pay any tax on capital gains made. Moreover, you can also avail of indexation benefits.
SGB subscriptions have gained traction since 2015 launch. Over the years, more and more citizens have subscribed to the bonds in various tranches as launched by the RBI.
