Mumbai: Heavy profit-booking was recorded leading to the downfall of Stock Market indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty on June 4, a day when Lok Sabha Election 2024 Results are being declared. The Stock Market investors resorted to profit booking a day after the markets sharply increased June 3 riding on exit poll predictions, which predicted majority for BJP-led NDA.
The benchmark equity indice Sensex plummeted on heavy profit-taking after a massive rally on June 3. The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 1,715.78 points to 74,753 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty declined 539.1 points to 22,724.80. The BSE later dropped further by 2,623.91 points at 73,844.36 and the broader Nifty quoted 617.45 points lower at 22,646.45.
At 10:07 am: Sensex was trading at 74,941 while the Nifty was at 22,813.30
30 Sensex companies top losers: Larsen & Toubro, Power Grid, NTPC, State Bank of India, Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank. Sun Pharma and Nestle were the only in Green.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 6,850.76 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.
A per the latest trends available, the BJP-led NDA today was ahead of the INDIA alliance. A per TV9, BJP-led NDA was leading in 298 seats, while INDIA alliance was ahead in 208 seats at 10:11 am.
Meanwhile, the Rupee depreciated 26 paise to 83.40 against the US dollar today as initial counting for the Lok Sabha elections indicated a mixed trend.
Stock markets rallied on June 3
Stock Markets rallied sharply on June 3, after exit polls on June 1 predicted absolute majority for the Narendra Modi-powered BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha election 2024.
The BSE benchmark went north by 2,507.47 points to settle at a new closing peak of 76,468.78 on June 3; the NSE Nifty rallied 733.20 points or 3.25 per cent to finish at 23,263.90.
