Sunak Calls Middleton ‘Inspiration’ as She Announces 1st Public Appearance Amid Cancer Battle

New Delhi: United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak lauded Kate Middleton, The Princess of Wales, after she shared a health update amid her ongoing cancer treatment. He called the statement issued by Middleton an inspiration for the people who are battling cancer.

Responding to the statement issued by the official account of The Prince and Princess of Wales on Friday, Sunak wrote, “The Princess of Wales’ statement will be especially meaningful to those who are fighting cancer and for their families. They will recognise the same struggle in her words and draw hope and inspiration from her strength(sic).”

He also expressed delight over Middleton’s announcement of attending King Charles’ birthday Parade on June 15.

“I’m delighted she will be in attendance for His Majesty’s Birthday Parade and I know the whole country is behind her,” the PM added.

Today’s Event Will Mark Kate’s 1st Public Appearance This Year

Earlier on Friday, Middleton had said that she is “making good progress” in her cancer treatment and will attend Saturday’s royal Trooping the Colour ceremony.

This will be her first public appearance since her diagnosis. The 42-year-old wife of Prince William has not appeared publicly this year. She announced in March that she was undergoing chemotherapy for an unspecified form of cancer.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well,” Kate said in a statement released on Friday, adding that she faces “a few more months” of treatment.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” Kate added.

She also expressed gratitude to members of the public, saying she had been “blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement”.
“I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times,” the statement further read.

Earlier King Charles was also diagnosed with cancer. He disclosed the news in February and has recently eased back into public duties following his treatment.
The King is expected to travel to Saturday’s event by carriage with Queen Camilla. He is likely to witness the ceremony seated on a dais, rather than on horseback as he did last year.
