Swiggy changes service fee policy, begins charging non-metro restaurants

New Delhi: Swiggy has changed its service fee policy. From August 14, 2024, the food delhivery firm has started levying its service fee on the gross order value, which includes GST and packaging charges too, from restaurants located outside metro cities as well, The Economic Times reported. Earlier, the service fee was calculated on the net value of orders.

Swiggy used to calculate the net value of restaurants in smaller towns and cities while deciding the service fee. Earlier, the platform used to charge service fees in larger urban areas on the gross value.

Swiggy’s decision is likely to affect approximately 1,000 restaurants, the report said. The food-tech giant reportedly charges commissions ranging from 17-25 per cent from restaurants.

Swiggy is expected to launch its initial public offering (IPO). The food delivery platform has plans to launch an IPO to raise up to Rs 3,750 crore as well as an offer-for-sale (OFS) component worth up to Rs 6,664 crore.
