Tamil Nadu: New ration cards will be issued after Lok Sabha Elections, says officials

Chennai: While more than 2 lakh people are waiting to get new ration cards in Tamil Nadu, the officials of the food supply department have said that the new ration card will be issued to them after the end of the Lok Sabha elections.  The issuance of new family cards has been stopped for the past one year. Due to this newly married people were not able to get ration cards in the state.

“The applications of those who have applied for new ration cards will be considered and the work of issuing new ration cards will start after the Lok Sabha elections,” officials of the food supply department said.

Also, thousands of citizens have applied to get new ration cards after the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government launched the monthly Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme, providing Rs. 1,000 to the woman head of the family. Considering that this will affect the distribution of women’s monthly aid scheme, the issuance of new ration cards was stopped in July last year. At this stage, about 2 lakh people have applied for new ration cards so far.
