Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Chevella (SC) quit the party on Friday and joined Congress in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy in New Delhi, Tv9 Telugu reported.
This is yet another blow to the BRS after two MLAs, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Sanjay Kumar joined the party over the last week.
Prior to that, Danam Nagender, Tellam Venkat Rao and Kadiyam Srihari joined the grand-old party in time for Lok Sabha elections. A total number of six MLAs defected from the BRS in recent times.
Speculation is rife that more MLAs are set to join the Congress in the coming days. Congress is allegedly eyeing two-thirds majority in Telangana Legislative Assembly and may accept many MLAs from BRS.
The Congress won 64 seats in the Assembly elections in 2023 while the BRS managed to secure 39 seats. After a wave of defections from the BRS, the Congress strength in the Assembly stands at 71 while the BRS strength is at 33.
On Thursday, CM Revanth Reddy accused KCR of beginning the process of poaching MLAs and defections from opposition parties when the BRS was in power between 2014-2023.
