At least 22 people were injured in separate stray dog attacks in Huzurabad town, Karimnagar district on Wednesday night, alarming residents in several colonies of the town.
The injured include people of all ages including children in Pratapwada, Vidyanagar, Mamindlawada, Gandhinagar colonies. Residents who tried to intervene were also bitten and attacked and four people were severely injured and were shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident, a rabid dog reportedly attacked a group of eight sanitation workers on the main street in Gandhinagar in the early hours of Thursday. One of them was seriously injured and was moved to MGM hospital in Warangal.
Locals in the area chased the dog away to kill it but it disappeared into thick bushes near an open drain, reports said.
Residents say that municipal authorities have not implemented stray dog sterilization program effectively.
Meanwhile, Telangana government informed the High Court that there are 3.79 lakh stray dogs in Greater Hyderabad limits, after the number of stray dog attacks have increased in GHMC limits as well.
