New Delhi: World No.2 Novak Djokovic and rival Rafael Nadal could potentially face each other in the second round of the Paris Olympics 2024 after the draws were announced on Thursday at Club des Loges at the iconic Roland-Garros.
World No.2 Novak Djojovic will start his quest for an elusive gold medal at the quadrennial showpiece event with a first-round match against Australia’s Matthew Ebden. Nadal, the winner of men’s singles gold at 2008 Beijing Olympics, will bid for his final Olympics Games with his match against Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in the Round of 64.
In case both Djokovic and Nadal are successful to win their respective first-round matches then the two tennis greats will pit against each other in what can be a mouth-watering clash at the Roland-Garros, a place dominated by the Spaniard with 14 French Open titles.
“I am excited for this duel in the second round, and I will give it my all,” said Djokovic, as quoted by news agency AFP. “I am aware of the importance of the Olympic Games. I represent my country, which is more responsibility and even more pressure.”

Rafael Nadal to enjoy ‘another opportunity’ at Roland-Garros
Nadal has announced his wish to play his last Olympics and add a third medal after winning two golds at the prestigious event. The 38-year-old tennis legend skipped the Wimbledon earlier this month in a bid to focus at the Olympics. Apart from bidding for a gold in the men’s singles, Nadal will pair up with the prodigious Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s doubles event. He lost to Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the first round of French Open last month, which was a first earlier exit by the 22-Grand Slam winner after featuring in the event in 19 times.
“Roland Garros is the most special place in the world of tennis for me. This year I was not able to spend a lot of time at Roland Garros so I am excited to be back here. It’s another opportunity and a chance to enjoy every single moment,” Nadal said.
The tennis matches at the Paris Olympics 2024 will be played from July 27 to August 4.
