3) Carlo Ancelotti
Carlo Ancelotti has seen some great success at the helm of Real Madrid. In the last year, he won the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. In the Champions League, Madrid faced some of the toughest competition, with the two-legged quarter-final against Manchester City, which was ultimately decided by penalties. Their Champions League final win over Borussia saw them route the German side 3-0.
In La Liga, Madrid was even more dominant, losing just once in 38 games and winning 29 of them. Ancelotti, in his two stints at Madrid, has led the side to 14 titles and has managed a squad well in transition.
2) Luis de la Fuente
Luis de la Fuente had a big job in hand when he was handed the reigns of Spain. The team had long lost its glory days and was in no good shape to be winning big tournaments. De La Fuente led the side to the Euros 2024 title win in Germany with a 100% record. Where the Spaniard stood out was his faith in the young players, with Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams emerging as heroes.
Their journey to the finals included a quarter-final meeting with the hosts Germany, who were themselves unbeaten in the tournament, followed by a clash with France. In the final against England, the game was nerve-racking, with both sides unable to break the deadlock till the break. A quick second-half goal from Spain was met by an equalizer. However, Spain was able to put themselves within 13 minutes to take home the European glory.
1) Xabi Alonso
The 2023/24 season belonged to Bayer Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso in German football. Leverkusen were unbeaten in the Bundesliga tournament, winning 28 games and drawing six times. Finishing at the top of the table, Alonso’s men were able to lift their first Bundesliga title, breaking the 11 title-winning-streak of Bayern Munich.
They were winners in the DFB Pokal as well, lifting their second title ever, winning 1-0 against FC Kaiserslautern, a Bundesliga 2 side. They would have completed the treble but failed to win the Europa League, losing the final 3-0 to Atlanta. Still, it was good enough for the side to be considered among the top teams in Europe today.
