Thomas Tuchel reshapes England’s tactics ahead of World Cup qualifiers

New Delhi: After a decade of near misses, Thomas Tuchel is bringing with him a hope for England football team. Morgan Rogers, Aston Villa’s attacking midfielder described the new manager with “aura” after meeting him for the first time at St George’s park on Monday. Tuchel will debut as England manager during Albania game after assuming the role in January this year.

The 22-year-old Rogers made his debut in November under interim manager Lee Carsley and was impressed by Tuchel immediately, with his confidence, calm and his ability to get his troops to respect him. For Tuchel it is pertinent that his players buy what his tactical plans and his presence.

With World Cup 2026 nearing, there is little time for the new manager to gradually fit into the side. There remains little time for the learning curve and disappointments. The commitment from the side has to be without a doubt.

How can England and Thomas Tuchel function?

For England to reach the German manager’s target he has set, this is the only way forward. Tuchel has mentioned without hesitation that he wants to win the World Cup with the side next year and wants to add the second badge to England’s jersey, immediately showing the standards he is setting for himself at his new job.

The players also seem to have taken that message seriously, even before the start of the opening group-stage games against Albania on Friday and then against Latvia on Tuesday, both being played in Wembley Stadium. It was the main point that every player took away from Monday’s meeting and even Rogers has said that the World Cup remains the only goal for them at the moment.

Tuchel is transparent with his requirements from the side and the process he wants to implement in the team. He has a clear vision of his players, how he wants them to perform and the areas that require improvement. The English somehow feels much different at the onset itself.

In general there are a lot of opinions on whether England can win a tournament or not. The players have always been confident on their ability to win tournaments but even they know that there remains little margin between confidence and arrogance.

Tuchel has a good resume, with the 51-year-old having led Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich and is aware of the little time he has to prepare for such a big tournament.

Tuchel will spend only 60 days with his team from now till next March which is in case they qualify for the tournament. This leaves them with just 24 days of training considering the matches and travel for the start of their campaign in the United States, Canada or Mexico.

For international football managers, they are always limited in the amount of time they have with their players. Thisis  not just Tuchel’s case but also with US national team manager Mauricio Pochettino, who took charge of the side in October last year. Pochettino recently said that while there is little time but it also leaves the players much more focused with the job in hand and have a sense of discipline and energy.

For Tuchel every minute counts and he has to pull together the squad’s focus as he pulses “new brotherhood” in the side in order to make them play a rather aggressive style of football.

Tuchel brings a different game after Gareth Southgate’s departure

Tuchel may not be anything like his predecessor Gareth Southgate who was more about diligent cultural change and building the side brick by brick. While Southgate may not have a trophy to his name, it was still full of some profound work on the squad.

With some very candid remarks regarding England’s difficulties at Euro 2024 on Thursday, Tuchel felt it was all in the past. He could of praised the campaign but chose to make a detailed analysis of the problems of the side, as he watched them on television. He pointed out that the team was under “tension” throughout the tournament.

Tuchel is not like Southgate and hasn’t taken over after spending tenure at the FA and working in the development and then coaching England Under-21 coach before getting the English senior team. Tuchel doesn’t have a history with the side and is looking at an 18-month job for now.

This means he will have to work fast and nobody expects anything more than his performance on the field. He needs to pick his best side going forward. He could be the most significant personality in English football history next year if he can finally bring a trophy to the country.

Ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s debut as England manager against Albania for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers group game, the German manager has made his intentions clear with the his goal with the English team.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
