‘Time we put team over individuals’: Fans blast India after series loss to Australia

New Delhi: India men’s cricket team lost the fifth and final Test match against Australia on Sunday at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and went down 1-3 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. This was the first defeat for the Indians against Australia in Test series since 2015.

On the third day of the Sydney Test, Australia bowled out India at 157 from their overnight score of 141 for 6. Pat Cummins and Scott Boland shared the last four wickets to help their team chase a competitive target of 162. Australia started the chase on a rampant move with Sam Konstas taking the mantle.

India entered the final innings without the services of their bowling spearhead and stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, who sustained back spasm on Saturday, though he came out to bat in the morning. Prasidh Krishna gave hopes with three early wickets in the first session as Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith were sent back to the pavilion.

Australia came firing in the second session with Usman Khawaja (41), Travis Head (34), and Beau Webster (39*) leaving no stone unturned to put the hosts past the finishing line in 27 overs. Australia qualified for the final of the WTC final while India won’t make it to the summit clash at Lord’s for the first time since 2021.

Here are some of the fan reactions on India’s recent Test series loss to Australia down under:

Senior Batsmen have let down the team India for sure but First change seamer has been the biggest difference between the two teams if you dig deep.

If you win only 1 match in the last 8 Tests, you do not deserve to play in the WTC final.

Pathetic. #India #INDvAUS

Hero culture is the main problem with Indian cricket both on and off the field. @GautamGambhir was quite vocal about this and hope delivers. Need to focus on system than individuals to get results like Australia.#INDvAUS

The reason India’s biggest hope is not on the field today is the Indian Cricket set up itself. Clear cut case of me over we, they make a fool out of the passionate Ind Cricket fans. Also, it’s time the fans put the team over individuals who just care about themselves.#INDvAUS

#SCGTest Day – 3
Everything is over.
It’s all clear that our bowling is depended on Jasprit Bumrah and our Batting is depended on only 1-2 batters. I thought we can pull this off when Prasidh krsna was taking wickets but without Bumrah it’s Inevitable.#INDvsAUS #INDvAUS #BGT2025

No doubt that Australia has been the better team throughout this series – the Indian team selection, the batting display and the off the field drama has definitely not been up to the mark. Time for the selectors, the Board and the think tank to realise that red ball cricket and…

India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy as it was

India started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a commendable 295-run win in the first Test in Perth under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah. Rohit Sharma returned to take the charge of the team in Adelaide and the team lost the pink-ball day-night Test by 10 wickets. The third Test was drawn after the rain showers interrupted the gameplay in Brisbane. Australia took a 2-1 lead in Melbourne in the Boxing-Day Test by 184 runs and the six-wicket win in Sydney helped them to regain the glory.
