New Delhi: Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke is likely to be on the sidelines for six weeks due to a knee injury, however, Lillywhites manager Ange Postecoglou has said that the English international won’t be requiring surgery. Solanke sustained injury during training last week and missed Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Everton and Europa game against Hoffenheim.
Postecoglou confirmed that the 27-year-old was ruled out until March after his side won 3-2 in Germany. The Australian manager though was hopeful about the striker’s return to action a little earlier though. Solanke came to Tottenham in the summer window last year for £55 million from Bournemouth. In his 29 appearances for the club across the competition, he has scored 11 times and made six assists.

The 59-year-old manager voiced concerns for the remaining players who were available after the Hoffenheim win, mentioning that they were “exhausted”. Postecoglou noted that being professional players, his squad was giving their everything on the field and then trying to recover at the quickest possible timeframe.
Solanke will be joining a long list of Tottenham players who are currently unavailable due to injuries including Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Destin Udogie and Brennan Johnson.
Postecoglou praised his squad noting that being a “Premier League outfit” who were playing an away fixture in the European competition with five teenagers in the side, playing a game with high stakes. He hailed the players for being willing to take so much of the pressure on themselves. Postecoglou had previously criticised the increased number of football games in a season.
Tottenham’s next game will see them host back-to-back games across competition with Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday before Swedish team Elfsborg visits them for a Europa clash four days later. In the Europa League, Tottenham are currently sitting in the sixth place. However, their Premier League campaign hasn’t been ideal as they sit 15th after 22 games.
