New Delhi: The ongoing Mahakumbh has been visited by crores of people from every part of the country. Not just from India, but even people from abroad have visited the Mahakumbh. It is the largest religious gathering in India and one of the largest in the world. People are going to Prayagraj en masse to take a dip at the holy Triveni Sangam. Many people are going to Prayagraj by trains, and Indian Railways is facing an added pressure to ensure seamless journey of passengers. The recent stampede in Delhi railway station highlighted the problems in an overcrowded station. Those planning to go to Prayagraj by train should note that that Indian Railways has canceled multiple trains from Bihar and Chhattisgarh till February 23.
The trains cancelled from Bihar and Chhattisgarh
Among the cancelled train is the Durg-Chhapra Sarnath Express which will not operate from February 19 to February 21. The trains goes through Prayagraj, and is a crucial route for passengers heading to the city. Hence, the cancellation has probably caused inconvenience to many travelers. The railways has also suspended Gorakhpur-Narkatiaganj Passenger till February 23. The Gorakhpur-Patliputra Express has been cancelled till February 22. The trains have been cancelled due to the huge influx of passengers in Prayagraj.
Keeping the cancellations of trains aside, the route of the Swatantrata Senani Superfast Express from Jaynagar to New Delhi via Prayagraj has been changed. Till February 28, the train will not run through Prayagraj as there are too many special Kumbhmela trains at Prayagraj Jhusi Railway Station. As per Railways, passengers who have reserved tickets on such canceled trains will get automatic refunds. Many people from Bihar and Chhattisgarh are going to Prayagraj and a result, the trains are overloaded. After the cancellation of several trains, people’s hardships in reaching Prayagraj might have just worsened.
