New Delhi: Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has launched a barrage of attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris following her nomination as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. Trump’s campaign has called Harris’s nomination “undemocratic” and labeled her as the least popular vice president, ahead of the November 5th elections.
“Threat to Democracy” Claims
On Friday, the Trump campaign issued a scathing statement accusing the Democratic Party of undermining democratic principles. “Kamala Harris, the least popular vice president in modern US history — has just officially been installed as the presumptive Democrat nominee for president without a single vote cast in her name,” the Trump campaign mentioned.
Comparing the nomination process to practices in communist China, the statement noted, “Democrat elites deposed their previous nominee when their cover-up of his decline was no longer tenable, then coronated Kamala in the least democratic way possible.” The Trump campaign argued that Harris is being shielded from public scrutiny due to her “dangerously liberal ideology” and “complete lack of fitness for office.”
Rallying the Base
Trump, who is scheduled to speak at an election rally in Atlanta, a key battleground state, on Saturday, sent an email to his supporters promising to “unleash hell” on Harris. “24 HOURS UNTIL WE UNLEASH HELL,” Trump wrote. “At this time tomorrow, Crooked Kamala’s worst nightmares come true. When I take the rally stage in DEEP BLUE Atlanta to a packed house with THOUSANDS of MAGA Patriots, she won’t be able to hide from the truth any longer.”
Controversial Remarks and Criticism
Trump never holds back when it comes to insulting Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in public or on social media, in a recent interview on Fox News, Trump called Harris a “playtoy”, suggesting that world would play with her. “I think they’ll look at her. I think they’ll walk all over her. She’ll be so easy for them. She’ll be like a playtoy. They’ll look at her and they’ll say, we can’t believe we got so lucky,” Trump commented, without elaborating on his claims.
Trump has also made incendiary remarks questioning Harris’s racial identity. During a speech at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention in Chicago, Trump said, “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black.” He added, “So I don’t know. Is she Indian or is she Black? I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t, because she was Indian all the way and then all of a sudden, she made a turn and she went, she became a Black person.”
Later, Harris responded to these comments, calling them a display of “the same old show of divisiveness and disrespect.” She condemned the attacks and said, “The American people deserve better. We deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us; they are an essential source of our strength.”
