New Delhi: After a thrilling first round, the second leg of the playoff for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage is here with 16 teams competing for the remaining eight spots in the tournament. Eight teams have already gone through to the knockout stage, after finishing the league stage in the top eight of the table.
The second leg starts on February 18th when AC Milan hosts Feyenoord trailing the visitors by a goal, with the game starting at 11:15 PM IST. Later in the night Bayern Munich after a below-par Champions League campaign, secured a 2-1 win over Celtic and taking home advantage would try their best to secure their knockout phase spot. The game will be played at 1:30 AM IST.
At the same time, Atlanta will also try to overturn the 2-1 upset delivered to them by Club Brugges last week as they host the second leg. In the same time frame, Benfica have managed to take just one goal lead over their opponent Monaco and unless they finish strong at home, could see their chances at the knockout stage slipping.
Wednesday will start with Borussia Dortmund facing Sporting CP, having taken a 3-0 win in their last outing against the Portuguese side.
The highlight of the first leg was the high-scoring game between Manchester City and Real Madrid game seeing the La Liga side win the contest and take a one-goal lead in aggregate. Man City have struggled this season both in domestic competition and at the UCL. Now they will face the defending champions at Real Madrid’s home in Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which has always been notorious for visitors although City won at the venue 2-1 in the 2019-20 season.
Plus Man City are in good form lately with their new signing of January Omar Marmoush scoring a hat-trick in the Premier League clash against Newcastle, where Pep Guardiola played him at left-back. While their defence against Newcastle didn’t concede, it will be tested against Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior. With a star-studded side, it won’t be just the test of the two side’s skills but also down to Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti’s tactical plan when the two teams lock horns on February 20, 2025, at 1:30 AM IST.
At the same time, Ligue 1 teams will clash when Brest Paris Saint-Germain to overturn their 3-0 loss in the first leg. The clash favours PSG with the team in great form and already having a three-goal advantage in their home clash. Luis Enrique’s PSG lately have been in great form. PSV and Juventus game was a close clash, with Mbangula’s goal helping Juventus take a 2-1 win. Playing PSV at home Juventus need to turn the aggregate lead into a win.
