UEFA Euro 2024 Key Highlights: Belgium win comfortably against stubborn Romania

New Delhi: Belgium have finally bounced back from their disappointing performance against the Slovakians, who caused the first major upset of this Euro campaign by defeating the Belgians who are ranked 3 in FIFA rankings. However, there is still hope for the Die Roten  teufel, as they have finally managed to win their first game in this campaign’s Euro.

The Belgians made the perfect start to the game by scoring early, a thunderous strike by Youri Tielemans from outside the box. The Red Devils were constantly on the move while producing some major chances. Then came the moment where Romelu Lukaku got his third goal disallowed this season after he was found offside before his ice cold one v one finish. However, De Bryune made it 2-0 after a wonderfully timed run after Keon Casteels played a long ball from the back.

However, the Belgians will be looking to carry this form in their next game where they face Ukraine, who themselves managed to get win their previous group stage match against Slovakia. Belgium is a team with high stature and they need to up their game in order to be considered as on of the contenders again. This certainly was a statement win for them as they look ready for their next fixture and this win against a stubborn Romanian side.

Romania on the other hand, were brave to compete against one of the very finest nations in European championship. Despite going a goal down in the early phases of the game, they never looked unphazed and kept on attacking. They looked threatning in the second half too as they improved on their possession game and looked much more creative, but were unlucky to concede a 79th minute goal by De Bruyne.

De Bruyne doubled the score straight from the goal kick taken by Casteels. The Romanian defenders were unable to stop the ball from being pushed forward by the Belgian keeper, and De Bruyne was able to hold off Dragusin’s challenge by running onto it. The midfield maestro was able to make the touch before the pursuing goalie to pass the ball into the net making it 2-0 for Belgium.
Lukaku thought that he finally scored his first of the campaign and gave Belgium a 2-0 advantage, after he was found by De Bruyne to finish it past the Romanian keeper. However, as the striker made his run, he was offside as the VAR suggested. This was his third disallowed goal of this campaign.
Lukebakio looked lively throughout the game as he cut inside to take a shot towards the Romanian goal that was saved well by Nita. it fantastic play by De Bruyne, who sent the ball to the winger after moving it through the Romanian midfield.
It was yet again Romelu Lukaku, who squandered a glorious opportunity in just the 14th minute of the game. The attacker attempted to score from the six-yard box, but the Romanian defender blocked the shot with his body sending it out for a corner. As he looked to score his first this campaign, the Belgian top scorer somehow managed to continue his poor form in front of the goal.
Just four minutes into the game and it already looked like an end to end game as the Romanian defender Dragusin headed towards the goal by standing tallest in the box. However, Casteels was able to palm it behind brilliantly for a corner.
Tielemans made it 1-0 after just 75 seconds into the game. Tielemans won possession back before playing the ball forward. The ball was then moved out to the left hand side of the pitch before being playing into the box. Lukaku held the ball up inside the box before laying it to the edge of the penalty area for Tielemans to strike it cleanly past the right hand side of the keeper.
