The Kremlin on Thursday suggested that Kyiv’s recent request for US-supplied long-range Tomahawk missiles is a sign of increasing desperation.
According to a report by The New York Times, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has formally requested these powerful cruise missiles, which have a range of 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles). This would significantly expand Ukraine’s strike capabilities, allowing it to target deep within Russian territory.
Zelensky himself hinted at this request in a video address on Wednesday, though he did not explicitly confirm it. He characterized the request as part of a broader “victory plan” that he outlined earlier this month.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to these developments by highlighting Russia’s recent military gains on the front lines. He argued that Ukraine’s growing reliance on Western military aid, particularly the pursuit of advanced weapons like the Tomahawk, is a desperate attempt to counter Russia’s momentum.
“Against the background of this dynamic, the Kyiv regime is beginning to show considerable nervousness,” Peskov stated.
He further elaborated on Ukraine’s intentions, suggesting that Kyiv’s ultimate goal is to “drag Western countries completely into the war up to their ears as quickly as possible and legitimize it.” Peskov characterized these efforts as “tricks” aimed at achieving this objective.
