Under Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, waiting ticket problem top priority

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has taken stock of what the ministry’s priorities are and highlighted some of the important steps to be taken on immediate basis. With reference to the Indian Railways waiting ticket problem, it was indicated that the ministry was working on an urgent basis to ensure that the travelling public does not face any such problem.

And among the most important steps to be taken to ensure such problems do not arise, it was revealed that, during this summer, as many as 10 times more trains were running on tracks when compared to last time. It was also revealed that as many as many as 4 crore extra passengers travelled by trains during this summer season putting extra pressure on the Railways.

Doing the maths, it was pointed out that if the Railways started running 3000 more trains on a daily basis, then the waiting list problem can be overcome. And providing a timeline to it, it was pointed out that this would be possible by the year 2032. Currently, Railways is running some 22000 trains daily. 

Indian Railways Infrastructure

Revealing some of the big achievements in the year 2024, it was pointed out that the Railways managed to lay as many as 14.5 km tracks on a daily basis. This was a massive step forward when you compare the same with what was happening in 2014 when just 4 km of tracks were being laid.  

The minister indicated that his ministry’s effort was on boosting the Railways infrastructure as much as possible. And the result has been that over the last 10 years, 35000 km new lines were laid.

In respect of spreading Railways infrastructure in states, it was pointed out that, at 6321 crore (it was 879 crore before 2014), Tamil Nadu was getting the biggest share. The work in the state has been increased 3-to-4 times, it was announced.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains

The minister has revealed that the Vande Bharat sleeper trains will be up and running within the next 60 days. Currently, the Railways has prepared 2 trains and these trains will undergo testing over the next six months.

Bullet Train

Regarding the most modern Bullet train infrastructure and preparedness, it was revealed that some 310 kilometres track has already been finished and that the under-sea tunnel part of the project is going on at full pace.

Earlier on Friday, chairing a high-level meeting, the minister also directed officers that they must prevent overcrowding on trains. Vaishnaw highlighted that “passenger safety was of paramount” importance. The minister also indicated that on many of these busy routes, extra trains will be introduced.
