New Delhi: US President Joe Biden, who met with a lacklustre performance in the recent presidential debate against former premier Donal Trump, has come under scan over his ability to operate effectively outside the six-hour window of daylight, claimed a report.
An Axios report revealed that the 81-year-old Democrat typically functions in best conditions between 10 AM and 4 PM. When outside of this time range or when travelling abroad, he’s more prone to verbal flubs and fatigue.
The report raised concern over Biden’s fitness to serve another term as the former will be seeking re-election in the upcoming November election for the President’s office.
The report further claimed, citing his aides, that the White House officials ensure that Biden’s public meetings and appearances are within the six-hour window to minimise the public impact of his health complications.
Several former and current White House officials, and many aides have observed flashes of absent-mindedness in Biden but typically dismiss them as gaffes, the report claimed. The issue triggered debate about Biden’s physical fitness and mental presence, given that he would be touching 86 years by the end of his potential second term as US President.
Biden-Trump Faceoff
Biden was served a chance against Trump during the 90-minute debate to demonstrate his capability to handle another four-year term.
Notably, the debate that started at 9 PM, five hours past Biden’s peak performance timeframe, saw him appear vacant at several points, struggling to frame coherent points against Trump’s response.
Capitalising on these moments, Trump didn’t miss the chance and questioned Biden’s ability to serve another term as President. “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence, and I don’t think he did, either,” remarked former US President Trump.
