New Delhi: Young and emerging Indian archer Vaishnavi Pawar was impressive at the recent Asian Youth Archery Championship 2024 held in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, from September 27 to October 3. She was part of the Indian team which claimed silver medal in the women’s team recurve U-18 category.
In the three-member young team, Vaishnavi would often open the first shot in every round. She was composed and performed well as India edged past South Korea in the semifinal through the shoot-off round. Pranjal Tholiya and Jannat were also part of the Indian team along with Vaishnavi.
In the gold medal match, India fought tooth and nail, coming from a 2-4 deficit to enforce a shoot-off against Chinese Taipei. The Indian team missed in the final stage to settle for a silver
“I am incredibly proud to represent India alongside my teammates. Beating South Korea in the semi-finals was a significant milestone for us, and we are determined to keep striving for more,” Vaishnavi commented.
“I am especially grateful for the unwavering support from the Punit Balan Group, which has been instrumental in my journey thus far. Winning silver at the Asian Youth Archery Championship is a testament to our hard work and dedication, and it inspires me to aim even higher in the future,” she added.
How Vaishnavi Pawar was supported by PBG?
Vaishnavi hails from Maharashtra’s Malkapur village, which is situated in the Latur district. She was supported by the Punit Balan Group (PBG) in July after impressing the firm with her talent and skills with the bow and arrow. The 16-year-old currently trains in Pune with all her training expenses and equipment is taken care by PBG.
“It’s a proud moment for us that Vaishnavi has made India proud by helping the team win a silver medal in Chinese Taipei. The level of competition at the Asian level is strong and Vaishnavi showed that she has the potential to beat the best in the business on the world stage,” said Punit Balan, chairman and managing director of Punit Balan Group.
“We will extend all help required to Vaishnavi to fulfil her dream of representing the country and winning medals at the world championships and the Olympics and this result only shows that she is on the right path,” he added.
Vaishnavi made to the quarterfinal of the women’s individual event in recurve archery of the continental junior championship. She finished fourth in the trials to make the cut for the Taipei City.
