Padstow Coastguard, responding swiftly to the incident, confirmed that the driver was safe and not inside the van when it was carried away.
The vehicle remained adrift until approximately 9:45 pm, when it was finally retrieved from the water by a recovery team after the tide had ebbed.
A spokesperson from Padstow Coastguard described the response efforts, noting, “HM Coastguard and RNLI Lifeguards were deployed to ensure the safety of all involved. The owner arranged for a recovery vehicle, which successfully retrieved the van once conditions allowed.”
Following the safe recovery, coastguard officers concluded their operations, ensuring the van was secured in a stable location.
Witnesses were left stunned by the unusual occurrence, with one describing it as “very strange,” akin to a dramatic scene from an “end of the world film.”
