New Delhi: On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, Israel came under attack as approximately 180 ballistic missiles were launched from Iran, triggering air raid sirens across the country. Despite the barrage, Israel reported only minor injuries.
A passenger onboard a flight to Dubai captured footage of the missiles being launched, showing an orange glow streaking across Israel’s night sky as residents scrambled into bomb shelters.

Before Iran’s attack, Israel had recently delivered a series of devastating blows to Hezbollah leadership in Lebanon, further escalating tensions. Iran claimed Tuesday’s missile strikes were retaliation for Israeli attacks that killed key figures in Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Iranian military. These included Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Revolutionary Guard Gen. Abbas Nilforushan both killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut last week and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran in July in a suspected Israeli attack.
Israel has vowed to continue striking Hezbollah until it is safe for citizens displaced from homes near the Lebanon border to return. Meanwhile, Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has vowed to keep firing rockets into Israel until a ceasefire in Gaza is reached.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israel launched limited ground operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire pounded southern Lebanese villages, while Hezbollah retaliated with a barrage of rockets into Israel. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
