New Delhi: India’s premier domestic one-day tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season will start on Saturday, December 21. A total of 38 teams will compete in 135 matches of the tournament, which will run until mid-January 2025.
A lot of international cricketers will be in action as the Indian team management will be keeping a close eye on the tournament with the 2025 Champions Trophy approaching. Sanju Samson was left out of the Kerala squad because he failed to show up for the team’s training camp while Shreyas Iyer will lead the Mumbai team in the tournament.
Vijay Hazare Trophy format
The participant teams are divided into five groups. The first three groups have eight sides each while the remaining two groups have seven teams. The first round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played in a single round-robin format, with each team facing their fellow group side once. Every team will play seven matches in the tournament and the top two from each group will advance to the knockout stage.
The five teams who finished in first position will advance straight to the quarterfinals and teams from 7 to 10 will play two pre-quarterfinal matches to advance, while the sixth placed team will also advance to the quarterfinals.
The quarter-finals are scheduled to be held on January 11 and 12 in Vadodara while the two semi-finals are scheduled for January 15 and 16. The final of the tournament will be played on January 18. Every match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will start at 9 AM IST.

Group C – Arunachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Karnataka, Mumbai, Nagaland, Punjab, Puducherry, Saurashtra
Group D – Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha
Group E – Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Delhi, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura

The group stage matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will not be streamed or telecast but the knockout matches will be streamed and televised on Jio Cinema and Sports 18.
