New Delhi: A CCTV footage of a shocking robbery during broad daylight at El Camino Real, California, has been doing rounds on social media platforms. The CCTV footage captured a brazen robbery on June 12, where nearly 20 suspects dressed in black stormed into a branch of PNG Jewellers, originally based in Pune, India. Armed with hammers and tools, they shattered glass counters, smashed display cases, and looted valuable jewellery from the store.
If reports are to be believed, the incident occurred at the Hacienda Shopping Center on E. El Camino Real around 1:30 PM. The suspects used sledgehammers and tools to forcibly enter the jewellery store, where they stole valuables before swiftly escaping in multiple vehicles, eluding the police who arrived shortly after 1:27 PM.
In a press release, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety stated that they responded promptly to the reported robbery at PNG Jewellers. They located two suspect vehicles travelling northbound on U.S. Highway 101. During the pursuit, stolen jewellery was thrown from one vehicle, which was later abandoned near Whipple Avenue in Redwood City. Five suspects fled into an industrial area and were apprehended near San Carlos. This incident marks the second robbery targeting an Indian jewellery store in recent weeks, following a similar event at Bhindi Jewelers in Newark.
Confirming the incident, Saurabh Gadgil, Chairman and Managing Director at PNG Jewellers said, “I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming care and concern you have shown us for what has transpired at our Sunnyvale, California store the day before yesterday. Yes, an armed robbery did occur, and it is the fourth such incident in the past six weeks with an Indian Jeweller in the Bay Area in the USA. I am relieved to report that all our staff members are unhurt and safe. Five suspects have been apprehended, and the investigation is ongoing. We are doing everything to support the authorities so that justice can prevail.”
He asserted that they are working diligently to ensure our store is up and running again in just a few weeks. “I have received so many calls from friends, peers, and customers, both here in California and in India.
