New Delhi: Team India star Virat Kohli was spotted practising in the nets near the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during Day 3 of the ongoing 1st Test between India and Bangladesh on Saturday. Kohli, who endured poor outings in both innings of the Test match, looks determined to make amends as he was seen sweating it out in the nets while India’s 2nd innings was underway.
Kohli made his Test comeback for India after 8 months as the senior batter had skipped the home Test series against England earlier this year due to the birth of his son. The prolific right-hander looked far from assured on his return and got out cheaply on just 6 runs during India’s first innings. Kohli was expected to bounce back in the 2nd innings but he could only manage 17 runs.
The right-hander was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud in the first innings after nicking an outside-off delivery from the Bangladesh pacer. In the second innings, Kohli looked a bit more composed and didn’t rush himself as he got himself into the zone. However, he was trapped lbw by spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz after a lapse in concentration.
Though replays showed Kohli had managed an edge, he was dismissed on 17 after deciding against reviewing the lbw call from the umpire. Determined to get back to his rhythm ahead of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, Kohli decided to hit the nets in Chennai and batted against India’s throwdown specialists.

Yashasvi Jaiswal joins Virat Kohli in the nets
Kohli was not the only India batter, who returned to the nets mid-match during the Chennai Test against Bangladesh as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also joined the senior batter. Jaiswal was seen batting the net adjacent to Kohli’s during lunch in the 1st Test. The left-hander played a gritty knock of 56 runs in India’s first innings before falling cheaply on 10 in the second innings.
Jaiswal headed into the series with a burden on expectations on his shoulders after his stellar show in the Test series against England at home earlier this year. He managed to live up to those in the 1st innings but failed to follow it up with another impactful knock. Jaiswal will be hoping to notch up a big knock in the 2nd Test against the visitors in Kanpur.
