New Delhi: Rohit Sharma’s Test spot and captaincy is in danger after the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The Indian captain has come under heavy criticism for his poor batting form in red-ball cricket while his captaincy credentials have also been questioned since India’s humiliating home series whitewash against New Zealand.
According to a report published in Times of India, Rohit will not be a part of the team’s plan as far as the Test set-up is concerned, after the culmination of the ongoing BGT 2024-25. The report further mentions that the senior batter will not continue as a Test player after the five-match series gets over but his retirement from the longest format might not be in the offing.
Kohli to replace Rohit as skipper?
The report further mentions that with Rohit’s exit, the team will be in a state of uncertainty, which leads to a possibility of star batter Virat Kohli’s return as Team India captain. The management has found Kohli to be be more vocal on the field as he has regularly addressed the team huddles giving the perfect prep talks to the Men in Blue. Although, there is no official confirmation about the same but it’s being stated that the possibility of this to happen cannot be ruled out.
Virat Kohli resigned from the role of Team India’s most successful Test skipper after leading the team in 68 matches with an outstanding win rate. Under his captaincy, India won 40 Test matches while lost just 17. Kohli was also the first Indian captain to emerge victorious in a Test series in Australia after he bagged a 2-1 win in the 2018-19 edition.
It’s also being stated that the Indian team selectors might not have enough faith in the youngsters as far as leading the team is concerned so Kohli wearing the captaincy boots once again looks like a possibility. Reports have also started doing the rounds that Rohit might not participate in the series-decider starting from Friday.
Virat Kohli is expected to replace Rohit Sharma as Team India’s red-ball skipper, according to a report. Rohit has been undergoing a bad phase as a batter and captain. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
