New Delhi: A big shot’s failure in any kind of business certainly raises some eyebrows as this fact is unconventional and hard to digest sometimes. And when something of similar sort strikes the sporting world, it gives birth to millions of questions, among which few require answers. For all the followers and non-followers of cricket, Pakistan’s untimely exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 is nothing less than shocking.
With failure in another big-ticket event after the ODI World Cup 2023, rumours regarding the reason for their continuous flop show at big ICC events has casted a doubt on their character and when questions are raised about your character, clarification becomes a pre-requisite. It’s none other than the famous Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who has been accused of match-fixing after his side’s dismal run at the marquee event.
Pakistan journalist accuses Babar
Senior Pakistan journalist Mubashir Luqman has accused Babar of being involved in match-fixing at the showpiece event after the Men in Green crashed out in the group stages and seemed out of track during their campaign. Luqman has levelled some serious allegations against the skipper in particular saying that he received some expensive gifts in return of losing games at the World Cup.
The journalist’s suspicion went up to a different level altogether after Pakistan lost their group clash against hosts USA and then went on to win a close contest against Ireland before makin a premature exit from the event, their second after registering dismal run at the ODI World Cup as well.
Babar received luxurious car, apartments as gifts
Luqman has said that Babar’s luxurious vehicle, the Audi E-Tron, which the skipper said he received as a gift from his brother, was acquired from some bookies and he also got some apartments in Australia and Dubai for fixing the World Cup games. In response to Babar’s defence, the journalist has stated that his brother does not do anything concrete for a living and certainly does not have the financial condition of gifting him a luxurious vehicle.
A video on social media site X, from a user named Cric Mate, has been doing rounds on the social media, where the journalist can be heard accusing Babar of match-fixing and levelling serious allegations against him.

Additionally, he also slammed Pakistan skipper Shaheen Afridi for poor performance at the T20 World Cup. After this video, which went viral on social media, Pakistan cricket fans have urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to investigate the allegations made by the journalist. The Men in Green have been facing backlash from the cricket fans and experts for their below-par performance at the event.
