WATCH: 1st T20I centurion Sanju Samson falls flat in Gqeberha with three-ball duck

New Delhi: India’s T20I opening batter Sanju Samson didn’t live up to the expectations of his fans who were hoping for him to go big in the second T20I against South Africa as well. The match, that is being played at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha, turned into a frenzy in the first over itself as Marco Jansen delivered his team the much-needed wicket and an early breakthrough as well.

The coin fell in South Africa’s favour and skipper Aiden Markram decided to bowl first against India. His main paceman Jansen made an instant impact, making use of the new ball and the pitch conditions. Samson, who took the strike to face the first ball of the game, faced two dots first. It was the third delivery that knocked him over completely. Samson 0(3) walked back without troubling the scorers of Gqeberha.

After scoring back-to-back T20I hundreds, Samson was sent packing on a duck and the law of averages caught up as well. He tried to make some room and in the process exposed all his three timbers. Jansen stuck to his length around leg and as the batter picked the wrong line and got beaten, leaving his leg stump uprooted. It was a perfect start for the Proteas and Jansen was all fired up.

India facing early troubles

It seems the hosts aren’t having any of India’s say in the second match of the series and are looking to level things up in the game. The form that India showcased while batting in the initial overs of the previous game, couldn’t be replicated at the St. George’s Park. The team is even struggling to keep a run rate of 6.0 as their scoreboard after nine overs was at 52/4.

Samson’s opening counterpart Abhishek Sharma was sent back by Gerald Coetzee on a score of 4. Tilak Varma made run-a-ball 20 before Markram removed him with the help of a stunning catch from David Miller. The projected score for India looks somewhere between 125 to 140 runs.

Sanju Samson was expected to go all guns blazing in the 2nd T20I against South Africa but was sent back on a three-ball duck by Marco Jansen’s ripping delivery.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
