New Delhi: The Indian men’s hockey team stars visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Sunday, a day after returning from Paris following their bronze medal triumph at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian players received a grand reception back home in Delhi as fans turned up in huge numbers to welcome them at the airport.
India won their second consecutive bronze medal at the Paris Games after defeating Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match. India defeated Germany in the bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 to bring an end to India’s 41-year-long medal drought in hockey. Harmanpreet & Co. enjoyed another memorable campaign in Paris despite failing to make it to the final.
Captain Harmanpreet along with his teammates from Punjab – Mandeep Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gurjant Singh and Shamsher Singh paid a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and offered their prayers after arriving home.

India enjoyed a great campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 as they started their campaign with a 3-2 win against New Zealand before drawing 1-1 against Argentina. India then got the better of Ireland 2-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals before going down against Belgium 2-1. India then pulled off a stunning 3-2 win against Australia before beating Great Britain in a shootout in the quarter-final.
In the semi-final, India were up against a tricky opponent in Germany and went down fighting 3-2 to miss out on a place in the final. Nonetheless, Harmanpreet & Co. bounced back to beat Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match to bag their second successive medal at the Olympics.
Hockey India announces reward for men’s team
Hockey India has announced a cash reward of Rs 15 lakh for each member of the Indian men’s hockey team squad after their bronze medal feat at the Paris Olympics. Hockey India has also announced a reward of Rs 7.5 lakh each for the support staff of the Indian men’s hockey team. The bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 is a significant one for India as it marks the first time since 1972 that India have won consecutive medals in hockey at the Olympics.
