WATCH: Jasprit Bumrah left distraught as no-ball denies him fifer vs Australia at MCG

New Delhi: Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah missed out on a well-deserved five-wicket haul as a no-ball gave Australia spinner Nathan Lyon a lifeline during the dying moments of Day 4 of the ongoing 4th Test between the two sides at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. Bumrah dismissed Lyon in the final over of Australia’s 2nd innings on Day 4 only to realise that he had overstepped as the Aussie tail-ender survived.

The incident happened in the final over of Australia’s second innings on Day 4 when a defiant Lyon was up against Bumrah with India needing a wicket to wrap up the hosts’ innings. Bumrah bowled one into the channel and Lyon edged it as the ball flew straight to KL Rahul at third slip. Rahul made no mistakes with the catch as he somehow managed to pluck the ball between his legs but the umpire signalled a no ball as Bumrah had overstepped.

The Indian pacer was left distraught after being denied the wicket as it not only ensured Australia finished the day on 228/9 but also denied him a well-deserved fifer. The no-ball meant Lyon finished with a crucial knock of unbeaten 41. The tail-ended added an important stand of unbeaten 55 runs for the 10th wicket with no.11 Scott Boland, who remained not out on 10.

Lyon and Boland combined to put on a defiant stand for the 10th wicket for Australia, leaving the Indian bowlers frustrated after their fabulous start on Day 4. Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj ran riot to reduce Australia to 91/6 at one stage in their second innings. However, a spirited display from the tail-enders ensured they finished the day on top with a commanding lead of 333 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah becomes fastest Indian pacer to 200 Test wickets

Bumrah achieved yet another milestone as he became the fastest Indian pacer to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket after picking up a 4-wicket haul against Australia on Day 4. The Indian pacer ripped through Australia’s middle order as he dismissed the likes of Head, Marsh and Carey to finish with excellent figures of 4/56 off his 24 overs on Day 4.

Bumrah still has a chance to complete his fifer on Day 5 if Australia decide to continue with their second innings and not declare ahead of the start of play. Bumrah will bag his 13th fifer in Tests if he manages to complete a five-wicket haul on Monday.
