New Delhi: New Zealand fast bowler was ruled out of the final match against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 played on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. The player’s reaction to being disappointed for not playing in the XI was captured by one of the broadcasters.
Henry suffered a shoulder injury in New Zealand’s semifinal triumph against South Africa in Lahore earlier this week. During the toss, visuals on Sky Sports Cricket showed Henry training before the game. He apparently learned that he wasn’t going to play in the final after head coach Gary Stead patted on his back. Henry was seen placing his fingers on his eyes with the cap covering the emotions partially.
Cricketer-turned-commentator Michael Atherton said that the player looked in a state of ‘distraught’.

Ahead of the final, Henry was the leading wicket-taker in the Champions Trophy with 10 wickets from four innings at an average of 16.70 and an economy rate of 5.32. He started the tournament with 2 for 25 against hosts Pakistan in Karachi before taking just wicket against Bangladesh.
He claimed his career’s third five-wicket haul in ODIs after registering bowling figures of 5 for 42 against India in Dubai. He again picked two wickets in the semifinal against South Africa to help his team defend 362.
New Zealand posted 251 for 7 in the final after opting to bat first. Daryl Mitchell (63) and Michael Bracewell (53*) recorded valiant half-centuries to post a challenging score suited to the conditions. Indian spinners Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2 for 45) were brilliant for India to control things in between.
New Zealand haven’t won any big tournament after the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2019-21 final. The team lost to India in the semifinal of the 2023 World Cup in Mumbai a couple of years ago.
