Gurbaz played a sensible knock in the first innings scoring 43 runs on a tricky surface and helped Afghanistan to post 115 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Bangladesh’s spinner Rishad Hossain took three important wickets and took his tally to 14 wickets in this tournament. Rishad now becomes the most wicket taker in a single edition of T20 World Cup surpassing Shakib al Hasan’s 11 wickets in 2021.
In reply, Litton Das was the lone fighter from one end and scored a worthy half-century but didn’t get any support from the other end. Skipper Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq’s four-fers ended their drought of qualifying for semis in ICC events.
Gurbaz now becomes the top run scorer in the T20 World Cup 2024, scoring 281 runs in just seven innings with a 40.14 average, and helped Afghanistan to qualify for the maiden semi-final birth in an ICC mega event.
