Lucknow: Sarfaraz Khan, the run-machine of first-class cricket, continued his remarkable scoring run in the domestic circuit with a magnificent century in the ongoing Irani Cup match between Mumbai and Rest of India at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
Sarfaraz notched up his 15th hundred in just 74 first-class innings to establish his reputation as the run-machine of India’s domestic red-ball cricket. The Mumbai batter has 14 half-centuries to his name as well.
Sarfaraz brought up his century in just 149 balls with a couple through the extra cover off Yash Dayal. The prolific batter celebrated the milestone in style by raising his both arms in jubilation and trademark aggression.

Sarfaraz made the most of his outing in the middle after being released by the Indian team management for the Irani Cup. The Mumbai batter was travelling with Team India for the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Ahead of the second Test in Kanpur, which India won in dramatic circumstances on Tuesday, Sarfaraz and Jurel were released from national duties.
Mumbai in pole position
Mumbai, after being sent into bat by ROI, had stretched the first innings total closer to the 350-run mark at Lunch on Day 2. Ajinkya Rahane, the Mumbai skipper played a superb knock but the veteran Indian batter missed out on a well-deserved century after being dismissed on 97 by Yash Dayal. However, Sarfaraz was fortunate to not have been dismissed in the 90s as he was dropped by Prasidh Krishna at deep mid-on.
Out-of-favour senior batter Shreyas Iyer also played a fantastic knock of 57 before being dismissed by Dayal. Mukesh Kumar has been the pick of the bowlers for the Rest of India so far with a four-wicket haul.
