New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav is putting in the hard yards in the build-up to the Sri Lanka tour which commences on July 27 with the three-match T20I series for which the explosive batter has been named as skipper. Replacing Rohit Sharma and pipping Hardik Pandya for the big role, Suryakumar looks in good touch in terms of preparation as he recently shared a video of the same on his social media handle.
In the video shared on Instagram, he can be seen taking the running drills and being involved in an intense training session ahead of the six-match white-ball series in the island nation. Although, Suryakumar will only be taking part in the T20I series that will be played in Pallekele solely and will end on July 30. In the video, he can be heard saying, “Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth it? Absolutely,” as he held a fulfilling smile on his face.
He captioned the post, “Giving it all, everyday” and notably put the inspiring title song of Bollywood film ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ as the video’s background score.

Suryakumar, also fondly known as SKY, will carry a huge responsibility in the Sri Lanka T20I series. The departure of Rohit Sharma from T20Is and the demotion of Hardik Pandya paved the way for his T20I captaincy, of which he also holds a decent experience in the past.
Surya as T20I skipper of India
Right after the ODI World Cup 2023 heartbreak, India healed the wounds with Suryakumar at the helm, winning the five-match T20I series against Australia 4-1 in November last year. On the South Africa tour that followed, SKY led India to share the T20I series 1-1 in December. Rohit notably took back the captaincy in the Afghanistan series after a hiatus of 14 months.
Rohit called it quits after the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph of Team India in Barbados last month and the Indian management has now entrusted Suryakumar with the leadership role in the new Gautam Gambhir era.
He also penned a thank you note to his fans and supporters for wishing him luck and success in the new role. Taking to his Instagram account, he shared a picture of himself and wrote a long caption full of gratitude.
