New Delhi: Wayne Rooney’s team Plymouth Argyle are being filmed for a behind-the-scenes documentary. The film crew will be following the team and their time with Rooney as manager. The 39-year-old was appointed as the manager of the side this May and his experience with the side so far has been mixed with the side placed 18th in the Championship.
Rooney has overseen just four wins and four draws in the season from 15 matches, making a comeback to a club managerial role after a tumultuous short spell at Birmingham City last season. The Manchester United star had previously also managed Derby County and DC United.

Athletic has reported that though filming had begun at Home Park, the project was still in its initial stage, and there are no signed contracts or any clarity as to which platform or channel will be broadcasting the show. The main aim of the show is to increase interest in the club with cameras following Rooney both on and off the field as he settles into the environment of the city’s Royal William Yard, just a ten-minute drive from Home Park.
Similar behind-the-scenes football documentaries
More recently there have been multiple sports behind-the-scenes documentary with a chunk of shows followin g football teams during a season. Wrexham A.F.C have already enjoyed success with the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ show on Disney+ which features owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal have also been subject to similar documentaries.
Since Rooney has shifted to Devon, he has been spotted in local bars, taking part in karaoke sessions with fans. The news comes right after Rooney’s wife Coleen has been announced as part of the show ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ on ITV. Rooney retired from club football in 2021, having played for nearly two decades having been part of big teams, including Manchester United and Everton.
