We Have to Kick the Enemy Out of Our Territory, says Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed a strong response to Ukraine’s ongoing offensive in the border regions, declaring that his defense ministry’s primary goal is to drive Ukrainian forces out of Russian territory. His comments were made during a meeting with officials, broadcast on state television.

Putin addressed the meeting, stating, “The defense ministry’s main task is to push, to kick the enemy out of our territory.” He suggested that Ukraine’s recent military actions are aimed at strengthening its negotiating position.

Putin said that “losses have been mounting dramatically for the armed forces of Ukraine, particularly among the most capable units which the enemy has been sending to our border.” He asserted, “The enemy will undoubtedly receive a worthy response, and there is no doubt that we will reach all our objectives.”

Ukraine is controlling 28 villages in Kursk

During the meeting, Kursk’s acting governor Alexei Smirnov reported that Ukrainian forces currently control 28 villages in the region. Smirnov indicated that Ukrainian troops are positioned 7.4 miles (12 km) deep inside the region, with a front line stretching 40 km wide. Putin interrupted Smirnov to request more details on the social and economic impact on the local population and the measures being taken to assist them.

In response to the ongoing conflict, Russia has begun evacuating residents from a second border region. Approximately 11,000 people in the Belgorod region have been relocated due to “enemy action” near the border. This evacuation follows a surprise attack by Ukrainian troops into the Kursk region last Tuesday.

Since the offensive began, Ukrainian forces have advanced up to 18 miles (30 km) into Russian territory. This marks the deepest incursion into Russia since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Kyiv has claimed that thousands of troops are involved in the operation.
