New Delhi: Team India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Sri Lanka on Friday and started their Women’s Asia Cup 2024 campaign with a win.
Asked to field first, the Indian bowlers did a fantastic job and restricted Pakistan to 108 runs. Pooja Vastrakar bowled some great deliveries and removed both openers in the powerplay.
The spinners also did a brilliant job in the middle overs by stopping the run flow. Fatima Sana and Tuba Hassan stitched a partnership of 31 runs for the seventh wicket but Deepti Sharma removed Tuba on 22 runs.
She also dismissed Nashra Sandhu in the same over for a golden duck. Pakistan was struggling to get a three-digit score but Fatima Sana smacked Radha Yadav for two sixes in the 19th over and helped the team to reach 108. Deepti Sharma picked up two wickets and Renuka Singh, Vastrakar and Shreyanka Patil also took two wickets each.
Chasing the target of 109, The Women in Blue got off to a flying start as Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma stitched an 85-run partnership for the first wicket. Pakistan tried to get back in the game after dismissing both Indian openers but Harmanpreet and Jemimah took the team over the line.
