New Delhi: The Income Tax department is planning to roll out a new income tax filing portal soon, without giving a definitive timeline. Called Project IEC 3.0, the website is expected to replace IEC 2.0, bringing in upgrades to the existing portal. The new portal will be rolled out after a committee concludes detailed consultations with all stakeholders concerned and submits its report next month, according to an internal circular.
Taxpayers will be able to e-file their ITR apart from being able to submit a statutory form and access multiple other related services. IEC 3.0 will provide a back office portal which will enable access to data for filed officers, according to the internal circular.
Project IEC 3.0 is also e xpected to influence the internal functioning of the I-T department in the coming years, according to the circular. The tax department will also seek feedback from all stakeholders before rolling out the final version of Project IEC 3.0, according to the circular.
The I-T department appointed a committee headed by a CIT level officer effective October 8, 2024, to collect feedback from all stakeholders. Taxpayers, tax professionals, and officers among others will be consulted by the committee. The committee will submit its findings by email by November 30, 2024.
The new portal is expected to take care of bugs and glitches in the existing portal and make it more taxpayer-friendly. IEC 3.0 will also ensure the safety of user data, the ET reported, citing an internal document of the I-T department.
Some of the problems concerning stakeholders were access to previous years’ ITRs and Forms 26AS apart from a stuck server and issues related to challan payment, the TOi reported, citing CA Ashih Niraj of A S N and Co.
