New Delhi: India’s double Olympic bronze medallist Manu Bhaker was recently felicitated at an event in Chennai and was honoured for her achievements at the recently concluded Paris Olympics 2024. Manu created history at the Paris Olympics by becoming the first Indian athlete post-Independence to win two medals in a single edition of the Games.
Manu opened India’s account at the Paris Olympics with a bronze medal in the women’s 50m air pistol event before bagging another bronze medal along with Sarabjot Singh in the mixed doubles 50m air pistol event. The 23-year-old came close to winning a third medal in the women’s 25m air pistol event but ended up missing out after finishing 4th.
Manu was felicitated by the Velammal Group in Chennai for her heroics at the Paris Olympics. The shooter interacted with hundreds of school students who were present at the event and gave her autographs on her sketches drawn by the students. The Olympic medallist also showcased her dancing skills by shaking a leg with the students at the event.
Unwanted questions on Vinesh, Neeraj forces Manu to leave
However, not everything was perfect at the event for Manu as the Olympic medallist also had to deal with some unwarranted questions from reporters, who put her in a spot. The shooter dodged a question from a reporter, who reportedly asked her for a comment on whether she believed wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal getting disqualified was politically motivated.
“Vinesh’s judgement was politically motivated. What’s your opinion?,” – a reporter asked Manu, as per a report in Sportstar. The Olympic medallist decided not to answer the question.
Manu reportedly decided to leave the event after her mother too was dragged into the conversation and was asked an awkward question about Neeraj Chopra. “What was your conversation with Neeraj (Chopra)?” the reporter asked Manu’s mother following which the mother-daughter decided to leave, as per Sportstar.

While Neeraj is yet to return home after winning a silver medal in men’s javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024, Vinesh received a grand reception at the Delhi airport and her home in the Balali village in Haryana following her return from Paris. Vinesh missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics after being disqualified for being overweight by 100 grams ahead of her gold medal bout in the women’s 50kg freestyle category.
Double Olympic bronze medallist Manu Bhaker had to face some untoward questions during a recent event in Chennai on Tuesday.
