New Delhi: The Men in Blue will face Bangladesh in the two-match Test series at home, starting from September 19. It will be Team India’s first Test assignment after defeating England at home at the start of the year.
After the England series, Indian players participated in the IPL 2024 and also won the T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados on June 29. Team India played a limited-over series against Sri Lanka and after that the players enjoyed a long break from international cricket.
Apart from captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, many India regular players will participate in the domestic red-ball tournament. The tournament will help the selectors to pick the 15-member squad for the Bangladesh Test series.
The tournament will feature Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh and KS Bharat, among others in action.
The two-match Test series against Bangladesh will also mark the beginning of India’s long Test season as part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Bangladesh scripted history after defeating Pakistan by 2-0 in the Test series. The two matches against the Men in Blue will be played in Chennai and Kanpur respectively, followed by a three-match T20I series.
Rohit and Co. will play three Test matches at home against New Zealand in October, before travelling to South Africa for the T20I series. Team India will take on Australia in the five-match Test series in late November.
India currently is at the top of the WTC points table with 68.52 percentage points and could seal their spot in the WTC final for the third consecutive time if they manage to beat Bangladesh and New Zealand at home.
When will BCCI name India’s squad for the Bangladesh Tests?
As per the ESPNCricinfo report, BCCI will announce the squad for the Test series after the end of the first round of the Duleep Trophy, which will be played from September 5 to 8 in Bengaluru and Anantapur. The selected 15 players will later attend a training camp in Chennai on September 12 ahead of the start of the Bangladesh Test series.
