White House Defends Biden Against Edited Videos Alleging Mental Decline

The White House has strongly criticized Republicans for distributing videos that purportedly show President Joe Biden‘s mental and physical decline. According to the administration, the footage has been deceptively edited and manipulated to present a misleading narrative.

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre addressed the issue in a media briefing, stating, “It tells you everything that we need to know about how desperate Republicans are here,” referring to the clips as “cheapfake” videos.

Several videos have been shared by various outlets, including the New York Post and an official Republican social media account. These short clips portray the 81-year-old president in an unflattering light. One particular video shows Biden awkwardly walking away from the group while the world leaders posed for an official G7 photo. In the footage, Biden appears to walk a few feet away from the group while watching a skydiving display. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni then taps him on the shoulder to bring his attention back to the group photo.

What is Jean-Pierre claiming?

Jean-Pierre has claimed the footage was misleadingly edited. She explained that Biden was actually moving to give a thumbs-up to the parachutists. “This was widely fact-checked… including by conservative media,” she said, adding, “if you run that tape a little bit longer, you’d see… what was happening.” NBC also debunked the claim earlier in the week by posting footage from a different angle, showing Biden interacting with the parachutists nearby.

Another clip that gained traction featured a close-up shot of Biden standing still as world leaders danced near him during a concert at the White House. Critics claimed this indicated confusion on Biden’s part. Jean-Pierre responded, “The president stood there listening to the music, and he didn’t dance. Excuse me. I did not know not dancing was a health issue.”

Biden didn’t ‘freeze’, says White House spokesperson

Additionally, a video showing Biden appearing to “freeze” on stage during a fundraising event in California went viral. In this clip, former President Barack Obama leads Biden off the stage. Andrew Bates, another White House spokesperson, clarified on X that Biden was actually waiting on stage to appreciate the applause from his supporters.

Biden’s primary opponent in the upcoming November election, Republican Donald Trump, has emphasized Biden’s age in his campaign, positioning himself as a more energetic alternative.
