New Delhi: The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) released the list of players featuring 574 names who will go under the hammer at the much-awaited mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. Among several star-studded names, India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi and England’s James Anderson stand out.
While Suryavanshi, at the age of 13, has become the youngest player ever to be named in the IPL auction player list, Anderson, 42, is the oldest on the list.
A whopping 574 players will feature at the auction (366 Indians and 208 foreign players) but only 204 slots are available for the ten franchises including 70 overseas cricketers.
Suryavanshi, the budding eft-handed batter from Bihar, is the 491st name in the lineup, listed within the 68th set under the uncapped batter category (UBA9).
Meanwhile, Anderson is listed in set number 67, which features capped overseas pacers.
Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
The 13-year-old batter made a decent first-class debut for Bihar in January this year and was selected for India A squad that faced Australia A in two multi-day red-ball matches in September-October. Survanshi displayed his potential against the Aussies with a superb century.
Suryavanshi has played five first-class matches and across 10 innings, he has amassed 100 runs, with a top score of 41.
Despite the modest FC returns, Survanshi is a star to look out for and it won’t be surprising if IPL franchises engage in a bidding war for the young superstar.
Anderson oldest at 42, Overton second-oldest at 42
Seasoned English pacer Anderson made headlines recently after registering for the IPL auction for the first time in his career. Anderson, who hung his boots from Test cricket earlier this year, is currently part of England’s backroom staff in Test matches.
Meanwhile, Jamie Overton, another veteran Englishman, follows his compatriot closely at 41. Overton features in the sixth set consisting of all-rounders. Other notable cricketers in the auction list over the age of 40 include Faf du Plessis and Mohammad Nabi.
