Who is Manav Suthar? Left-arm spinner steals show with 7-wicket haul in Duleep Trophy

New Delhi: Manav Suthar was arguably the pick of the bowler for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India C as they defeated Shreyas Iyer-led India D by 4 wickets in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 on Saturday, June 07. Left-arm spinner Suthar wreaked havoc with the ball as he picked up a seven-wicket haul during India D’s second innings to set up a thumping victory for his team.

Suthar managed only a solitary wicket as India C pacers dominated the proceedings during the first innings of Iyer & Co. at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur. However, the left-arm spinner stole the show during India D’s second innings as he spun a web around the batters with his wizardry.

Suthar opened his account with the prized scalp of Devdutt Padikkal during India D’s 2nd innings on Day 2 before running riot. The left-arm spinner went on to dismiss KS Bharat, Ricky Bhui, Saransh Jain and Arshdeep Singh in quick succession to complete his fifer at the close of the day’s play on Friday while reducing Iyer & Co. to 206/8 at stumps.

India D could only manage to add 30 runs to their overnight tally on Day 3 of the encounter on Saturday as Suthar dismissed both Axar Patel and Aditya Thakare to finish with excellent figures of 7/49 and bundle out the opposition for 236 runs. Courtesy of Suthar’s bowling heroics, Gaikwad’s India C got a target of 233 runs in their second innings.

Skipper Gaikwad led from the front with a brilliant 46-run knock laced with 8 boundaries while the likes of Aryan Juyal (47), Rajat Patidar (44) and Abhishek Porel (35) made vital contributions as India C chased down the target inside 61 overs to wrap up a comfortable victory on Day 3 on Saturday.
