New Delhi: Virender Sehwag was one of the most prolific batters Indian cricket has ever seen. In an era where the quality of bowling was on another level with some of the most terrific bowlers in world cricket at their peak, Sehwag made it a habit to stand out from the rest because of his sensational performances. Recently, the former Indian star opened up on whether he would like to coach Team India or an IPL franchise if given a choice.
In a conversation with Amar Ujala, the Indian veteran said that he isn’t keen to take up Team India’s coaching role but remains interested in taking up a similar role with an IPL franchise. After Rahul Dravid decided to call it quits as the head coach of Team India, many names erupted in the media who could replace him as the coach and one of them was Sehwag’s.
Why IPL coaching role over Team India for Sehwag?
Virender Sehwag said that if given a chance, he would not be with the Indian cricket team but if any of the IPL franchise presents him an offer of coaching, he will surely have a look at it. The veteran Indian star further said that if he picks up the India head coach job, he will have to follow the same routine which he went through for 15 years.
For the Indian team, it will require you to stay on the road for 8-9 months in an year and he can’t afford that since his kids, who are 14 and 16, need him. Both his kids play cricket for Delhi. On the other hand, the IPL coaching role requires just two to three months time so it’s possible to devote three months than giving 10 months. Even Rahul Dravid has been in talks with the Rajasthan Royals franchise for a possible coaching role.
