New Delhi: The prices of Mother Dairy and Amul milk across all variants have been increased by Rs 2 per litre across the country with effect from June 3 (Monday). Mother Dairy announced Rs 2 per litre hike in milk prices in the Delhi-NCR regions due to a rise in input cost over the last 15 months, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation said the rates were increased in overall cost of operation and production of milk.
Why Mother Dairy hiked milk prices?
Mother Dairy released a statement saying that it is increasing the milk prices by Rs 2 per litre to compensate the producers for increased production costs, which have been on the rise for over one year.
Mother Dairy full cream milk will be available now at Rs 68 per litre in Delhi-NCR, while toned and double-toned milk will be priced at Rs 56 and Rs 50 per litre, respectively.
Buffalo and cow milk will be available for Rs 72 and Rs 58 per litre respectively. Token milk will be priced at Rs 54 per litre. Mother Dairy had last increased its milk prices in February 2023.
“Despite paying higher prices towards milk procurement in the last few months, the consumer prices were kept intact. Moreover, the heat stress across the country has been unprecedented and it is likely to further impact milk production,” Mother Dairy said.
“The surge in farm prices is only being partially passed on to the consumers, with an effective revision of 3-4 per cent, thereby securing the interests of both the milk producers and the consumers,” Mother Dairy said.
Amul Milk price hike reason
Amul milk prices have also been increased across all variants with effect from June 3, 2024. Justifying its decision to hike the prices of Amul Milk variants, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation said the rates have been increased due to increase in overall cost of operation and production of milk. Amul buffalo milk (500 gm) pouch will cost Rs 36; 500 ml Amul Gold milk will cost Rs 33 and and 500 ml Amul Shakti milk will be priced Rs 30.
It further mentioned that its member unions also increased farmers’ compensation by approximately 6-8 per cent over the last one year.
“This price hike is being done due to increase in overall cost of operation and production of milk. Our member unions have also increased farmers’ compensation by approximately 6-8 per cent over the last one year,” the GCMMF said.
