Why South Africa have donned special jersey in Women’s T20 World Cup 2024?

New Delhi: The Proteas Women’s team have donned a special jersey for the T20 World Cup 2024 on October 4 in their ongoing match against West Indies at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.

The South African women’s team wore a jersey with the names of their family and friends on the collar of their shirts. Captain Laura Wolvaardt and other team players posed for the cameras with the jersey.

The Proteas Women qualified for the finals of the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2023 but Sune Luus and Co. lost the final against Australia by 19 runs.

Why did Proteas Women don a special jersey?

The South African women’s team will honour the bonds that keep them grounded. The powerful message also acknowledges the support structure, loved ones and massive support from the nation. The women players will take the field in customised playing shirts with embroidered names of their family members and close friends.

As the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup 2024 kicks off in the United Arab Emirates, the Proteas Women are taking a heartfelt approach to stay connected with their fans with the message: “Always Rising – For Me, For Her, For Them, For All, For South Africa, For The Proteas.”

‘We have a lot of really clear plans heading into this World Cup’: Laura Wolvaardt

South African captain Laura Wolvaardt praised her team and said that she has a very talented group of players and in recent times the team have suffered a few ups and downs. She further added that they have put in a lot of hard work and have a lot clear plans heading into the T20 World Cup.

“I definitely think so. I think we’re a very talented group of players. I think we’ve had a few ups and downs in recent times, but I like to think that we’ve put in a lot of good hard work and have a lot of really clear plans heading into this World Cup” Laura Wolvaardt said in a press conference.

“So hopefully we’re peaking at the right time. And I think if we all play our best cricket, then we stand a really good chance” she added.
