New Delhi: West Indies defeated England by 8 wickets in the third ODI match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday and won the series by 2-1. Brandon King and Keacy Carty scored stunning hundreds while chasing the target. Their brilliant 209-run partnership became the highest ODI stand for the West Indies against England.
West Indies opted to bowl first in the third ODI match, and the bowlers backed their captain’s decision by taking early wickets. Mathew Forde removed Will Jacks on just 5 runs in the third over While Romario Shepherd also dismissed Jacob Bethell and Liam Livingstone cheaply. Phil Salt and Dan Mousley played a crucial role and helped England to post 263 runs on the scoreboard. Salt scored 74 runs off 108 balls with the help of four boundaries and one maximum while Mousley also scored 57 runs.
Sam Curran, Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton also played important cameos as England added 100 runs in the last 10 overs. Matthew Forde picked up three wickets while Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd took two wickets each.
Keacy Carty, Brandon King shine in series finale
Chasing the target of 264 runs, West Indies made a swift start and scored 40 runs in the six overs. Jamie Overton dismissed Evin Lewis on 19 runs and provided the visitors their first breakthrough. Despite losing a wicket, the hosts ended the powerplay at 65 for 1.
England’s bowlers struggled to take wickets while their fielders also dropped important catches which allowed both King and Carty to build a partnership. King scored his third ODI century with the help of 13 boundaries and two maximums while Carty also batted brilliantly to score his maiden ODI century.
Both batters stitched a stunning 209-run partnership for the second wicket which helped West Indies to win the series against the Three Lions. Despite a brilliant finish from England’s lower order, West Indies batters dominated in the run-chase as the conditions got better to bat in the second innings. After the ODI series, Both teams will now square off in the five-match T20I series, which will start on November 9.
