Kathmandu: Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Sunday that no anti-China activities will be allowed in the country, underscoring the Himalayan nation’s commitment to the ‘One China’ policy.”
Oli made these statements during a meeting with a high-level Chinese delegation led by Chen Jining, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee, held at his official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.
Reaffirming Nepal’s dedication to the One China policy, Oli emphasized that no anti-China activities would be permitted within Nepal’s borders.
‘Will Not Allow Anti-China Activities In Nepal’
China maintains that Taiwan is a breakaway province and requires all countries with diplomatic relations to adhere to the ‘One China’ policy, which asserts that Taiwan is part of China.
During the discussion, Oli expressed his hope for ongoing Chinese support for Nepal’s economic development.
They also discussed strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Nepal’s Communist Party (Unified Marxist–Leninist), according to the Prime Minister’s office.
As the Chairman of the CPN (UML), Oli is regarded as a pro-China leader.
He highlighted the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges to bolster government-to-government, people-to-people, and historical ties, as well as to promote trade.
The Prime Minister praised the CPC and President Xi Jinping’s role in “alleviating poverty and driving comprehensive development in China,” expressing Nepal’s interest in benefiting from such progress.
He also updated the delegation on the coalition government formed by Nepal’s two largest parties, the CPN (UML) and the Nepali Congress , aimed at fostering political stability.
Chen, who also serves as the Secretary for the Shanghai Municipal Committee, reaffirmed China’s commitment to Nepal’s “happiness and prosperity” and stated that Beijing will always respect the decisions of Nepal’s political parties.
Present at the meeting were the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, CPN (UML) Secretary and Head of the Foreign Department Raghubir Mahaseth, and China’s Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song.
