Will there be a result in Kanpur Test? A look at shortest Test matches in history

New Delhi: Having secured the shortest Test victory in history earlier in the year, India are now trying to pull off another similar victory in the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.

Rain and wet outfield had halted play at the Green Park stadium after only 35 overs in the first day. The action on the next two days was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Play resumed on the fourth day morning on Monday and extended sessions are planned for the next two remaining days to recover some of the lost overs.

History at Capetown

On January 3, 2024, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets in Cape Town to register the shortest Test win, with the match completed in 642 balls (107 overs).

India had bowled out South Africa for only 55 and then were shot out for 153, losing their last six wickets without adding anything to their score at the Newlands Cricket Ground.

It was first team in Test cricket’s history that a team lost six wickets without scoring a run in an innings.

Hosts South Africa then made 176, getting dismissed at the stroke of lunch on day two. In their second innings, India needed only 12 overs to reach their target of 79 runs, levelling the series after lunch on the second afternoon.

It was the 2522nd Test match in history. Usually, a Test match goes on for five days with 450 overs (2,250 balls) bowled during the duration of the match where each team bats for two innings each
